Agni Chemburkar
About
Agni Chemburkar is a self-taught artist who has been honing his skills since childhood. Although he initially pursued a degree in Civil Engineering, his passion for art grew stronger and he began creating art as a means of escape from his studies. Through an apprenticeship with artist Anil Dingankar, he received semi-formal education in art and further developed his skills.
After moving to the US to study art at SAIC, Chicago, Agni dropped out a year later to pursue a Masters in Marketing from the University of Cincinnati. During his time in the US, he took advantage of the opportunity to visit museums and art galleries across the country to learn more about art.
Now based in Chembur, Agni's art focuses on the coexistence of traditional and modern Indian culture, a characteristic of modern Indian society. His paintings are a mix of abstract and figurative styles, and he approaches his work with an investigative mindset, much like an ethnographer. He conducts research, collects materials, and transforms metaphysical concepts to create a dual dialogue between the artwork and the viewer. Agni's art is not only suggestive but also invokes the viewer's past experiences, creating a rich and engaging viewing experience. Despite working as a sales manager for an IT company, Agni continues to produce thought-provoking artwork that reflects his passion for the arts and his cultural roots.
